NOTIS’ Northwest Literary Translators present:

Translation open mic night

Date, time, and location
: Thursday, 7/17/2025, 17:30 – 19:30 @ Folio, the Seattle Athenaeum, 93 Pike Street, #307

Come spend a summer evening with the hottest translators in town! Literary translators will gather at Folio to share excerpts from their work in translation, any genre, and language. You can register to read from your work or to simply attend and cheer on your colleagues.

The first eight translators to register for the event and indicate that they want to perform will be assigned a reading slot. Other readers will be welcome to follow as time allows. Please bring snacks or beverages to share.

A few rules:

  • Readings should include a little of the source language and a lot of your translation.
  • You must read a translation of your own, not someone else's (or some machine's translation).
  • Each reader will have the microphone for 5-7 minutes to allow time for everyone and keep the audience engaged. Shorter is fine.
  • Choose something exciting to listen to! This means a piece that's beautiful, surprising, hilarious, touching, or otherwise very memorable.

Questions? Write to Shelley.

Cost:  $5 for NOTIS and Folio members | $15 general*

* Did you know? Members enjoy reduced, often free, event admission. If you live in the Seattle area and expect to attend at least two NOTIS events per year, consider looking into membership... At only $25/year for students (55 for non-students), it might just save you money! See the benefits breakdown here.
