NOTIS’s Community Interpreters Division (CID) presents:

Consecutive Interpreting for Medicaid & Medicare Patients

Presented by Lawrence Luo and Yvonne Simpson

Cancelled

What is it about?
Almost 66 million people in the US (45% of the population) are enrolled in Medicare and almost 86 million in Medicaid. In WA State, over 2 million people are enrolled in Apple Health, WA DSHS's social health insurance plan. Medical interpreters frequently interpret in situations where Medicaid coverage is discussed, and in which healthcare personnel clarify which services are covered by Medicaid, explain copayments or deductibles, and communicate regarding treatment options that may affect their coverage. This webinar will provide medical and social service interpreters with an understanding of these two programs so they can accurately interpret for encounters related to these areas of coverage, both at DSHS appointments and for healthcare appointments covered by Medicaid or Medicare. Interpreters will be given opportunities to practice consecutive interpreting skills in scenarios discussing Medicaid and Medicare.

Participants will receive handouts with scripts and will have opportunities to practice consecutive interpreting in breakout sessions. A copy of the presentation slides will be sent to participants after the workshop.

This workshop will be recorded and shared with registrants.
