 NOTIS Community Interpreters Division presents

Interpreting for OT/PT/Speech and

Dealing with Difficult Interpreting Encounters

Have you ever noticed that interpreting for therapies has unique challenges? Where do you stand? Should you use simultaneous mode to keep up? What about all that jargon? In our four-hour morning session we will review interpreting for these three therapies, looking at vocabulary specific to these encounters, and practice role play interpreting scenarios.
In the three-hour afternoon session, we will learn new strategies for dealing with difficult encounters. If you have ever asked a colleague, “What would you do in this situation?” and gotten the answer “Well, it depends…” this session is for you! We will consider some things that make interpreting encounters stressful (the environment, working with other people, your own triggers) and explore the tools we have available to deal with each of those demands. There will be ample opportunity for practice – bring your questions and your input!
