NOTIS and Seattle Children’s Hospital present Overview of Pediatric Cancer

Same date and time, Saturday November 12,1 to 5 PM. Ocean Café. Children’s Hospital main campus. 

This is a 4-hour workshop for medical interpreters in two parts: First half: Pediatric cancer--normal and altered anatomy and physiology, immunology and hematopoeisis. Discussion of common cancer diagnoses, therapy options, common complications, daily routines and procedures, common patient education that would involve an interpreter.  Second half: Pediatric Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT): Pediatric transplant indications, diagnosis, phases, and complications.

   Alison Thomsen, RN, CPON has been a pediatric hematology/oncology hematopoietic stem cell transplant nurse for 30 years. Originally from England, she came to the States as a travel nurse 25 years ago.

Alison has been at Seattle Children’s since 1999 and soon became the Clinical Nurse Educator of the inpatient Cancer Care Unit. She lives with her husband and 8 year old daughter in Wallingford.

The sponsoring hospital requests that half of the seats in the workshop be available to languages other than Spanish. Please register according to your language. 

After registering, you will receive an email confirmation; if you do not receive a confirmation, your registration did not go through.

Registration is limited to 44.

Via regular mail (registrations must be received by November 9th) Fill out the form and select “invoice me” at the payment option page. You will receive an invoice with mailing instructions.

If registering for more than one person, please submit a separate registration for each.  

Refunds?                  
We regret that no refunds can be given after November 9th, 2016. A $10 processing fee will apply for refunds requested before November 9th.

Park in Parking Lot One and enter the hospital at the River entrance. Interpreters must show an ID badge at Security at the entrance and receive an internal badge pass, so arrive early.

In order to offer this unique opportunity at an affordable price, no refreshments will be provided. We encourage you to bring your own water, coffee and snacks.

CE credits?               
Four continuing education credits have approved by the Washington State DSHS and CCHI. Four (4) continuing education credits are being requested from the ATA and Washington State AOC.  ATA credits are accepted by IMIA/NBCMI.
Certificates of Attendance will be awarded to all who arrive on time and stay for the entire workshop.
