Multilingual literary translation master class

At Seattle Central College with SAWAD HuSSAIN

NOTE: Priority registration will be given to NOTIS student members until March 16. Don't miss out!

As part of her visit to Seattle, acclaimed literary translator from the Arabic, Sawad Hussein, will lead an undergraduate workshop for students in Takami Nieda’s ENGL210: Translation for Global Competence class. While translation is often seen as a solitary task, this workshop will highlight the advantages of working collaboratively within a supportive community. Students will explore key questions like, “What is the translator trying to achieve?” and “How can we help improve the translation?” The workshop will include an editing exercise, a session where select participants’ translation excerpts are workshopped, and a Q&A.

A limited number of seats are available to NOTIS members. Interested members should register here. The registration portal will close when the cap is reached.

Two translations by NOTIS members will be selected for workshopping. If you'd like to participate, please tick the box when you register, and instructions about how to submit your work will be emailed to you. Texts should be no longer than 200 words and will be due by April 15.
