NOTIS and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance present

The Language of Nephrology: Spanish-Specific

What is this? This 5-hour workshop will present essential terminology of the kidneys and urinary system in English and Spanish. We will learn terms associated with the anatomy and function of these systems, as well as the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment of their related diseases. The material is presented through handouts, slide presentations and videos, and you will have ample opportunities for review through written exercises and oral practice. This is excellent training and practice for medical interpreters, both experienced and new, as well as court interpreters who may encounter these medical terms in their work

Who is teaching? Joe Tein is a DSHS-certified medical interpreter and a Washington State certified court interpreter. He holds a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology and is also a freelance medical translator, working from Spanish and Italian into English. Mr. Tein is the creator of the Washington State AOC Court Interpreters’ English-Spanish glossary of legal terms and is the second author of the most comprehensive Italian medical acronym website (www.gilbertolacchia.it/acromed.pdf). He has taught numerous classes and workshops for medical and court interpreters over the years, both in person and through online webinars. A participant in a recent class wrote, “Joe has a way of teaching a lot of material in an interesting manner that keeps the students engaged.”

CE credits?  5 CE credits for this workshop have been approved from the Washington State DSHS, Washington State AOC, ATA, and CCHI. Certificates of Attendance will be awarded to all who arrive on time and stay for the entire workshop. Please allow yourself enough time to get to the site, find parking and sign in before the workshop begins.
